About us
What is our story
Our parent organization is
ČSOP JARO Jaroměř.
Multiple independent activities at several locations in the Czech Republic join together forming a network of closely cooperating associations. As one of the first actions, we launch a consumer campaign, the Coalition Against Palm Oil. Within ČSOP (Czech Union for Nature Conservation), ČSOP Arion is established in Central Moravia and ČSOP Morava in Southern Moravia.
We purchase our first eco tractor and excavator to better restore wetlands and manage habitats under our care. ČSOP Northern Bohemia is established.
We establish Palm Oil Watch International and participate in financing a project to save the Proboscis Monkey Bay in Borneo, Indonesia. We launch a project to save the endangered large blue butterfly in its last habitat in Czech Republic. Prague Pasture is established.
We begin cooperation in Austria. We start grazing wild Exmoor ponies in Hradec Králové.
In Slovakia, we organize the largest congress on NGOs and nature conservation – Ekofestival Nitra, where we also establish the European Society of Scientists and Experts for Nature Conservation (ESSENCE). We thwart the attempt to destroy the biggest population of large blue in the Czech Republic by turning its habitat into a golf course. We start an awareness campaign at events for the general public (Ekokaravan). For the first time, eight Czech scientific societies are unified in their stance, gaining support of more than 6,000 of their members for the preservation of the Moravian Amazonia. The Třesina association is established in the Bohemian Karst Protected Landscape Area.
We celebrate our first major success in the rescue and repatriation of the rock grayling in the Czech Republic. We also establish the educational portal Pomáhám přírodě (= Help Nature). Two new branches are established: ČSOP Hradec Králové and JARO Österreich (in Austria).
Along with JARO Österreich, we prepare our first project for the protection of butterflies in Italy. Along with the Poles and Austrians, we prepare a LIFE project for the rescue and reintroduction of the Apollo butterfly in Poland, Czechia, Austria, and Slovakia. David Číp becomes the chairman of the National Network of Rescue Stations of the Czech Republic.
For the purposes of nature conservation, we introduce domestic buffalo to the Baroch bird reserve, being the first ones to use eco buffaloes in the Czech Republic. We launch the LIFE Apollo project and another project for the reintroduction of the European ground squirrel to Eastern Bohemia. Additionally, Pestré Polabí association is established in Eastern Bohemia.
We begin to prepare first nature conservation projects in France, Germany, and Switzerland. We participate in an international conference in Slovakia dedicated to vegetation maintenance in power line corridors, presenting our innovative procedures and launching the Nature Under the Wires campaign. We co-organize the largest international practical nature conservation event in Slovakia to restore habitats for the Apollo and others. The Ratinka association joins us.
We organize the first weekend excursion for members of the Austrian conservation administration. The ČSOP South Bohemia association is established.
We have a representative in the expert group for the implementation of the New Restoration Law and the National Strategy for the Protection of Wild Pollinators. We launch the first year of Butterfly Half-Hour.
JARO is a network of associations from Central Europe working hands-on in the field. We’ve been protecting nature across Europe and beyond since 1989.
